International Event on Computational Information Technologies for Environmental Sciences CITES-2021

(November 22 - 27, 2021, Moscow, Russia)

G.I. Marchuk Institute of Numerical Mathematics RAS, Institute of Monitoring of Climatic and Ecological Systems SB RAS, Research Computing Center of Moscow State University, Moscow Center of Fundamental and Applied Mathematics  and Hydrometeorological Center of Russia are organizing the International Event on Computational Information Technologies for Environmental Sciences CITES-2021 (November 22 - 27, 2021, Moscow, Russia) , including a conference with elements of the young scientists school. The event is supported by the Russian Science Foundation, project 21-71-30023.

The main topics of the event are: the development of climate models, climate modeling, analysis of climate data and tools for its implementation. Special attention will be paid to adapting to expected climate changes and providing managers with the necessary climate analysis results. Exactly these topics will be presented in invited lectures delivered by leading experts, which will help young scientists to get updated information on the most important topics of the Earth system sciences and draw their professional attention to this critical area of research.

The CITES conference will also feature invited talks, oral and short oral presentations with full presentation of materials in poster sections.

Conference format

Due to the fact that at the moment we do not have information about the extension or cancellation of social distancing measures, the conference and the school are planned in a mixed format: presentations will be made in both online and offline (in the conference hall) modes.

Because the online schools showed low efficiency, this year the organizing committee decided that the school part of the program will be run without performing computational practical tasks.

The CITES sessions will focus on various aspects of Earth system modeling and their applications.

We invite you to participate in the conference with reports on the development of components of the Earth system model, in particular, models of processes in the atmosphere, ocean and near the Earth's surface (including the development of dynamical kernels), presentation of uncertainties in initial data and models, as well as information systems and databases for Earth sciences. We are also looking forward to presentations on regional interdisciplinary applied problems covered by the Future Earth Program and its Future of Northern Eurasia initiative.

Planned sessions

Session 1. Subseasonal and long-term weather and climate forecasts.

Session 2. Modeling and analysis of global and regional climate and related atmospheric processes.

Session 3. Development of Earth system model components.

Session 4 Land surface processes: observations, models and data assimilation.

Session 5. Computational and Information Technologies for Earth sciences.

Session 6. Future Earth Program and Northern Eurasia Future Initiative.

Working languages at the Conference are English and Russian. Simultaneous translation into English will be jrganized.

CITES sessions will be held at the G.I. Marchuk Institute of Computational Mathematics RAS and at the Research Computing Center of Moscow State University, Moscow.

The Program Committee will invite key specialists in the research area to present invited lectures, describing the state of the art in the targeted areas (1 hour), and invited papers, describing recent important inputs into the research domain (30 min). Also a limited number of papers will be selected for oral presentation (15 min). Contributed papers will be presented mainly as short oral presentations, whose content should be described in detail by relevant posters. Those who would like to present an invited/oral paper, please, contact Prof. E.P. Gordov (gordov@scert.ru).

Presentations of lectures and reports will be posted on the conference website.

Abstract submission requirements:

  1. Session chosen and requested type of presentation
  2. Title
  3. Authors (Principal author first)
  4. Affiliation and Address for Each Author (Mailing address, telephone, fax, e-mail, Internet site).
  5. Four-page report text. The text will be included in the electronic conference proceedings (12 points Times New Roman, 2-cm margins, single line spacing).
  6. Interest /not interest in publication in IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science.
